Principal's Message
Newport Gardens Primary School’s vision - ‘Nurturing Our Future’ is the underpinning tenacity that enables us to support all students to grow and develop. Our core values of Respect, Responsibility, Excellence and Inclusion form the base of our positive school environment. Through the application of a School Wide Positive Behaviour (SWPBS) culture we focus on improving student achievement and wellbeing as part of an intentional and caring community.
At Newport Gardens Primary School, we firmly believe that we must provide students with opportunities that challenge them to become contributing global citizens, a defined moral compass with strong interpersonal skills. Our school develops students who can communicate, are metacognitive and who can make choices that help to build a better society. Our SWPBS framework is delivered through an explicit teaching program that provides our students with an opportunity to develop, personal confidence and resilience, develop better social skills and contribute to the establishment and maintenance of a caring and supportive school culture.
Newport Gardens Primary School has a zero tolerance of child abuse and we promote and embody child safety. Our vision of Nurturing Our Future supports our focus of including people of all abilities and promotes the cultural safety of individuals from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders.
Our collaborative approach to planning and identifying student need is a core principle of our professional work. All teachers and leaders are supported by a distributed leadership approach which includes principal class roles, Leading Teachers and Learning Specialists and Team Leaders. Our instructional coaching model and unrelenting focus as a ‘Professional Learning Community’ enables us to monitor student achievement within and across each team. We place a strong emphasis on English and Mathematics, as well as incorporating ICT across all grade levels. In 2020, specialist subjects include Japanese, Physical Education, Technology, Performing Arts and Visual Art. Students also have the opportunity to participate in instrumental music and a variety of sporting teams a school concert, art show and other school experiences.
I would like to warmly welcome any new families. Newport Gardens Primary School is a community where we strive to Grow, Include and Improve all of our children and the community beyond.
